A t-shirt for your tomatoes?

t-shirt tie for tomato plant

Very much an amateur gardner, I have many things to learn from our local farmers. Yesterday, when looking around the house for something to tie up my top-heavy tomato plants, I saw an old t-shirt and decided to cut it into strips for ties. It made me so happy to be repurposing an unwearable garment and helping my garden, too! The shirt has enough stretch and is soft enough to not cut into the stalk of the plant. I went ahead and staked and tied up the pepper plants, too.

How about you? How do you tie up your plants? Perhaps more seasoned growers have their own clever tips they’d like to share on how to keep those plants happy.
