Tom the Furniture Guy and April’s Attic

Nine years ago on their way to visit a in Hohenwald, Tom & April Podnar drove around the downtown square in Centerville. Later that year when they were looking for a simpler life away from the crowds of Orlando, Florida, Tom and April remembered the charming square and started their search in Hickman County. They discovered a beautiful place off West Highway 50 that was perfect to start building their dream. Tom converted an old auto repair shop into a furniture workshop and April scoured the countryside looking for antiques and vintage items to sell in local antique stores. Now April is openi ng her own vintage shop called “April’s Attic” on the property and Tom has expanded his business to specialize in custom rustic furniture. He also has been salvaging old barns knocked down by storms. He is preserving this wood by creating hand-lettered signs that now decorate our area. Tom has also used a lot of this old barn wood to build farm tables, benches, trunks and other furniture. Tom and April find it very rewarding to be a part of preserving the past by putting its wonderful treasures in middle Tennessee homes.
