Mt Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church is Stop #5 on the Arts & Ag Tour.
The official website of the AME Church states that it is the first major religious denomination in the Western World that had its origin over sociological and theological beliefs and differences. It rejected the negative theological interpretations which rendered persons of African descent second class citizens. Theirs was a theological declaration that God is God all the time and for everybody. The church was born in protest against slavery – against dehumanization of African people, brought to the American continent as labor.
Members of Mt Zion who worship in this 100 year old church building will be onsite on Saturday, May 24th, to share its rich history with folks taking the Tour. We strongly advise you to plan your visit to Stop #5 during supper-time on day 2 of the Tour as the ladies will be serving up homemade southern fried chicken plates with all the fixin’s!
